Watch Deaf Raccoon performing in Auckland last Friday as one of only 8 bands selected for the national final out of over 1000 acts entered in the competition.
SmokeFree RockQuest has been a wild ride for Deaf Raccoon this year, culminating in the students making the cut for the band national final at the ASB Waterfront Theatre in Auckland.
The trip presented a great opportunity to learn all about the industry, through workshops on offer with heavy hitters in the New Zealand Music scene including performance workshops, media training and interviews ahead of the final concert.
It was also a rare chance to meet and greet other high-achieving young musicians from across the country, with other bands coming from Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Waikato.
Dunedin was well represented this year with both Deaf Raccoon from John McGlashan and Seek Help! from Queen's High School - a big congratulations to them for coming away with third place on the night.
While Deaf Raccoon didn't receive a placing at the final, we're incredibly proud of the students for making it this far in such a competitive national forum at only 16 years of age. The experience and connections they've gained will serve them well for years to come - so make sure to keep your ears open for these talented musicians on stage in the near future.
