Postcards from Washington, DC and a Farewell Party with Spaghetti Ice Cream, Pfeffernüsse, and Frankfurters

Thursday 31st October 2024

Recently, the PASCH Program organized a project in which Year 10 German students participated in a Postcard Project called "My School Lunch." This initiative aimed to connect German classes worldwide through written communication on postcards.

Our class received 25 postcards from Leesburg, Virginia, a few weeks ago. Just before the term break, we completed our postcards and sent them, along with some New Zealand candies, to our partner PASCH school in Washington, DC. The students are currently eagerly awaiting their next response.

After seven weeks in the German classroom, we had to say goodbye to our German student teacher, Mrs. Cooke. She supported students from Year 9 to Year 11, primarily teaching both Year 9 classes. The students enjoyed their time with her, during which she introduced two new topics: Clothing, Colors and Patterns, and "My Dream House". The students recently completed their dream houses in Minecraft, describing the rooms and furniture as they took us on a virtual tour, enjoying this method of expanding their vocabulary skills.

On the last day of her placement, we bid farewell to Frau Cooke with a shared lunch that included frankfurters and bread rolls. She surprised the Year 9 boys with a unique German treat: Spaghetti Ice Cream—delicious! Additionally, she made homemade Pfeffernüsse for the Year 10 and 11 students.

Vielen Dank, and all the best, Frau Cooke!
