Tēnā koutou,

We had a fantastic Summer Sports Tournament week last week, which once again showed the wide range of activities our boys are involved in. It’s always exciting to see such enthusiasm and participation from our boys.

This week, our Year 8 boys are having their camp at Te Kūwaha Mātauraka. They’re sure to return to school this afternoon feeling both tired and fulfilled after their outdoor adventure. On Wednesday, our Year 10 students impressed us with their verbal assessments, and it was wonderful to see so many parents there to support them. We’re also hosting our German camp this week.

During this week’s Assembly, we presented librarian badges to the boys who assist in the library. We also heard from former student Angus Loe, who shared his experience of completing a McGlashan Challenge with five current McGlashan boys. They raised over $5,000 for Mental Health with the indoor rowing challenge, where they covered 60km.

In the Arts, there’s plenty for our boys to get involved in. Improv Club, ŌSIC, and the choir will all be starting in Term 2, and we encourage students to sign up with Mr. Claman or Mr. McNulty.

Our Term 1 Photography Exhibition will be on display next week, featuring 80 stunning photos taken by our boys. The rōpū are also busy practicing for Te Hautonga, coming up on Sunday, 15th June, at the Edgar Centre. Finally, we’re looking for drummers to join the Pipe Band, with the idea of forming a ‘beginner’ Pipe Band by the end of this year.

This week, we said goodbye to Sandra Renner, who is leaving us to travel back to Germany. While we’ll miss her, we know she will hopefully be back in the future. We’re excited to welcome Claudia Cook to the Languages department.

We also have changes in our Year 7 and 8 teams starting in Term 3. Lachie McLellan will be moving to Singapore, and Lisa Matheson will take over as Head and Dean of Year 7 and 8. Liza Wilson will step in for Andrew Hore as the teacher for 8AHO, while Andrew will focus on teaching Year 7–9 Physical Education.

Today, you will be receiving your son’s third Progress Report. These reports continue to be helpful for both students and parents, and we’re using them to track the progress and attitudes of all our boys.

Next week, we will hold both our Easter Service on Monday and our ANZAC service, as both important dates fall during the upcoming school holidays.

A reminder that our first set of formal Parent Interviews will be held on the final two days of Term 1. Day boy parents (Years 7–13) are on Thursday 10 April from 1:15 pm to 7:00 pm, and Boarder parent interviews are on Friday 11 April from 1:15 pm to 3:30 pm. Please be aware that there will not be classes after lunch on either of these days.

Lastly, don’t forget to wind your clocks back for daylight savings this weekend as we move towards the winter season.

Kā mihi,

John Veitch
