Introductions
Angus Burns:
Kia Ora, my name is Angus Burns and I have the honour and privilege of being your Head Prefect for John McGlashan College in 2025.
A little bit about myself, I grew up the small country town of West Melton, about 40 mins outside of Christchurch and made the move down to Dunedin at the age of 10.
When I arrived in Dunedin, I had attended George Street Normal School, then came to JMC as a Day Boy in Year 7.
Outside of school, sports and cultural activities are big interests of mine. Both Rugby and Basketball are a massive part of my life as well as Visual Art and Photography. I also enjoy history, the classics and the occasional off-grid adventure.
I am very passionate about the school environment - and looking forward to supporting and encouraging all boys to achieve success in whatever spaces they strive for, as well as representing the school with pride and focusing on building connections and relationships.
If you have any questions, or would simply like to chat with either myself, Serge or Oscar, we are always open and keen to have any conversation. Whether it is anything about school, sports or day to day life, please do not hesitate to come have a chat with either of us. We are always happy to help.
I am looking forward to a great year in 2025, bring it on!
Ngā mihi.
Angus Burns.
Oscar Crowe
My name is Oscar Crowe and I am grateful and excited to serve as one of your Deputy Head Prefects for 2025.
My McGlashan journey started in 2021 as a year 9 border from Wanaka. A big change coming from a small school but the environment and opportunities helped me fit in.
In the classroom, I especially enjoy maths and wood technology and also the connections made with classmates. My interests include rugby through the winter and cricket and touch through the summer. I love the school's facilities like the gym and also being right next to the golf course.
Next year I would like to continue strengthening the brotherhood that has been worked on this past year. I feel this strengthens the connection and bonds between the boys and this is part of what is special about Mcglashan to me.
I am looking forward to representing the school and helping out wherever I can. I am always open for a chat along with Angus and Serge.
Cheers
Serge Meeuws
Kia ora koutou / Hello everyone.
I’m Serge Meeuws and I have the privilege of being your Deputy Head Prefect for John McGlashan college in 2025.
Here’s a bit about myself. I was born in France and moved to New Zealand as a toddler and have lived in Dunedin ever since. I’m the pōtiki / youngest of six children, with two older brothers and three older sisters.
Prior to starting John McGlashan College as a Day Boy in Year 7; I attended two primary schools here in Dunedin. After the open night I knew I just had to attend John McGlashan, it was the school for me. Although, I can remember it being a bit scary too for the first couple of years with the older boys who seemed so much bigger, like men, and I was still yet to grow. However, the time flies by and then you arrive at your senior years and feel a pang of nostalgia as you reflect on your previous school years.
I’ve always held many interests in my life. As a young day boy I was involved with everything from hip-hop dancing at RASA, Brazilian Jiujitsu, athletics, learning to play the drums through to every sporting activity you could think of, especially if it involved my mates. I love all things to do with the outdoors too. Hunting, fishing, surfing, diving and tramping have been constants in my life with a bit of photography here and there; all of these things play a big role in my life. I can easily say that John McGlashan have and will support, encourage and push you to where you can succeed in your interests too. The school always enjoys recognising you and your achievements!
The school environment - This plays a big part in who we ‘boys’ are. We believe as leaders of the school that John McGlashan College should be a safe and encouraging place for all boys within ages of 10-18. We want to encourage young men to strive for greatness in whatever they excel in. To give it their best effort. That could be sports, academics, the arts, debating, chess, cultural aspects or even being an all-round good McGlashan man. With being a McGlashan man we focus on representing ourselves ( our families / whānau) and the college with pride whilst building connections with others. We’re a part of a community, a part of society and we should contribute accordingly in a positive and upstanding way.
So, if you have any further questions, or just want to chat; feel free to come and talk with Oscar Crowe, Angus Burns or myself. We are always happy to help and/or offer advice!
We look forward to an awesome 2025!
Ngā mihi mīharo,
Serge Meeuws.
