We received some exciting news for JMC Music this week as the band were one of just eight finalists picked for the Smokefree RockQuest Band National Final.
RockQuest this year has been a wild ride for Deaf Raccoon - after the excitement of winning the Band section at the Otago Regional Final, they knew they still had a long way to go.
Making it to the final of a national competition is never a sure thing in music and art in general - given changing tastes, there are very few objective ways to decide whether one artist deserves to win over the others. And so the finalist selection is a rigorous process during which video submissions are judged by two separate panels of music industry experts before being confirmed.
There's no denying the band members have worked extremely hard from an objective standpoint, putting in time during lunch and after school to practice both as a group and individually. We are overjoyed to see that hard work recognised by such a wide variety of people!
The SmokeFree RockQuest Band National Final takes place at the ASB Waterfront Theatre in Auckland on Friday 12th September, after two days of intensive workshopping from a variety of experts. Tickets are available via the ASB Waterfront Theatre's Website.
While many of us may not be able to make it in person, a livestream will be available via the RockQuest website on the night - and there will be a recording of the show available after the fact.
