Ainslie Anderson NZAMT Award

Every two years, the NZAMT recognises a handful of outstanding teachers from throughout the country by granting them a Jim Campbell Award for Teaching Excellence. Mrs Anderson is a thoroughly deserving recipient of this award in 2015.

The citation reads:

The New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers (NZAMT) wishes to honour Ainslie Anderson by bestowing on her a Jim Campbell Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Ainslie is the HOD of Mathematics at John McGlashan College. Ainslie has been described as an ‘enthusiastic and efficient’ HOD, who really knows her students. The students she teaches and the parents whose children have been in Ainslie’s class all speak highly of her. She takes every opportunity to upskill herself in both the NCEA and International Baccalaureate programmes as well as current innovative teaching practices.
Ainslie is a longstanding member of the Otago Mathematics Association, and has been on the committee for a number of years. Since 2009 Ainslie has voluntarily co-ordinated the running of the yearly O’MAthalon competition, a role she completes superbly. It is Ainslie’s superb organisational skills that have largely contributed to the ongoing success of all levels of the competition from Year 5 through to Year 13. She gives many hours of her time, and a huge amount of her energy to this competition every year ensuring that all facets are covered. Indeed, it was Ainslie who was instrumental in ensuring the inclusion of a Year 6 competition, and more recently a Year 5 competition. She feels strongly about the importance of reaching out to primary schools and believes the fun, team competition format of the O’MAthalon is an effective way to challenge and encourage excellence at this level of schooling.
For her classroom work and her contribution in mathematics education at a regional level, and her outstanding dedication to an event that encourages a large number of students and schools to get out and enjoy mathematics, NZAMT has pleasure in granting Ainslie Anderson a Jim Campbell Award for Teaching Excellence.
