Welcome to this week's edition of the John McGlashan Pilkington Press.
Tēnā koutou,
It’s been an interesting week with two non-uniform days to support the Octocan Drive and the school Fete. Thank you to those parents that supplied many cans and books on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
We hope that the parents that joined us for the Annual JMC Sports Dinner last Friday had an enjoyable night. There was over $40,000 raised so thank you so much to the parents that organised the event, and also to all of the people that donated items and for those that purchased them!
Last Sunday our combined JMC and Columba kapa haka group named "Te Tira Haere o te Hāhi" (The Travelling Party of Faith) competed at 2025 Te Hautonga, the regional kapa haka competition for Otago and Southland. This was our first time ever competing in this competition and the group scored incredibly high grades with our lowest score being 91/100 and our highest at 98/100 for the aggregate sections.
A huge congratulations also to Caleb Ung, who has been selected for the NZ National Youth Pipe Band. Caleb has been instrumental in helping getting the pipe band back together by tutoring many of our juniors.
Finally, have a fantastic Matariki holiday tomorrow!
Kā mihi,
John Veitch
Acting Principal
