Interested students are welcome to join us for practice every Friday lunchtime.

It's been great to see a healthy cohort of students returning to the band this year - and the music room is now buzzing with activity each Friday as Mr Kane brings the boys together to jam out some new charts for 2025, starting with 'Walk the Dinosaur' by Randy Jacobs - featured in the Ice Age movies.

Boom, boom, ack-a lack-a lack-a boom!

Joining the band is a great way for the boys to practice working together as the 18-strong team all play in tandem. It's also a huge amount of fun learning a lot of funky grooves and crunchy harmonies, and a great way for students to learn to improvise and play solos on any instrument.

Keep an eye out for the McGlashan Jazz Band throughout the year as they'll be making public appearances at events like New Zealand Music Month, the Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival and the annual John McGlashan Fete.

The band practices every Friday lunchtime, and interested students are welcome to drop in - contact us via artscoordinator@mcglashan.school.nz if you'd like more information.
