Many boys have been trialling for different codes in the gym, on or in the water, wickets and sports fields over the last week

Recently JMC Rowers won 4 medals at the South Island Club Championships in Twizel. Good luck to seven of the team who are attending Nationals in the same venue over the next week. To comply with current COVID restrictions the venue can accomodate 1600 people with 16 seperate pods of less than 100 under strict rowing guidelines.

We have had to change our Athletics day venue and programme due to restrictions. The event will now be held over 2 days on Friday 25th February and Monday 28th February. We are unable to use our full field so will be having 100m, 200m, shot put, high jump, and long jump on the day. The following are times and dates for each year level

Friday 25th February

Period 1 & 2 Year 7 & 8

Period 3 & 4 Year 9

Period 5 & 6 Year 10

Monday 28th February

Period 1 & 2 Year 11

Period 3 & 4 Year 12

Period 5 & 6 Year 13

Our Cricketers have six teams ready to hit the wicket on Saturday. This is the only weekly sport that does not require ALL participants to be double vaccinated . All sport organisations offering weekly sports competitions for our students, require that  participants (over 12 years 3 months) are double vaccinated.

Every boy who wishes to play sport needs to have filled in the Vaccination Status survey that was sent out at the end beginning of 2022 by Deputy Principal Nigel Hunter.

It is extremely import that all boys check their emails, and read the school notices daily for all things related to school and sports.

The John McGlashan Sports App is the place to look for sports draws and notices. This is a great way for connecting with the boys and community on a regular basis through mobile devices. Users are able to subscribe to specific alert groups to only receive alerts that are relevant to them. Alerts are setup as push notifications so even a locked phone will display the alert.

You can use the following site , or Download SchoolAppsNZ from the App Store or Google play, load John McGlashan College and subscribe to the sports your son is interested in.

Different codes, and coaches/managers may set up their own team communications, e.g. WatsApp, messenger, facebook.

Thank you to those who have filled in the sports helper 2022 form.
