Junior and senior improvisation students extend their Theatresports skills with the help of local improv legends.
Junior and senior improvisation students were recently treated to a workshop with improv masters, Improsaurus. The two tutors from Improsaurus took students through a range of development exercises in the first half of the workshop, to help with various skills like giving offers, extending offers, endowing offers, yielding, and storytelling skills.
In the second half of the session, Ms Fridd's current Year 9 Drama class were treated to a Theatreports exhibition, and the JMC Improv Team provided the entertainment. Junior and senior improv students performed in a range of different Theatresports games, while the Year 9 Drama class acted as the audience and helped provide "starter offers" for the beginning of scenes.
The workshop was extremely valuable, and a great experience for all, and we thank the team from Improsaurus for their time and sharing of expertise. As for the JMC Improv Team, they are preparing for the upcoming Dunedin Schools Theatresports competition, to be held in the at the Fortune Theatre in a couple of weeks.
