Old Collegians Update - March 2022

Wednesday 16th March 2022

Congratulations to Head Boy Jack Timu and Deputies Jack Hazlett, Sheon Luxmanan and Archie McRae. I am sure these young men will lead and inspire the student body with mana and inclusiveness.

The boys have settled in very well to 2022 and, predictably, have found the first weeks of school challenging and rewarding in equal measure. We commend them for their obvious energy and willingness to get stuck into their school work and for meeting or exceeding our expectations.

We encourage our students to have dreams and ambitions. If they are equipped with grit, resilience and the determination to succeed, they will be able to overcome the inevitable knockbacks along the way. Each moment of challenge should be seen as an opportunity for growth. We continue to promote teamwork, an understanding of individual differences, service to others and a strong work ethic.

Tony Sycamore, Chairman of the Board of Proprietors, has resigned after 12 years of dedicated and loyal service to both the Board of Proprietors and the Board of Trustees. Tony has been instrumental in leading the college into the future, and we thank him for his tireless commitment to the college and to our boys.

The Board of Proprietors AGM was held earlier in the year, and we are pleased to announce that Simon Anderson was elected as the new chairman. The ongoing strength of the college's governance is its focus on providing the very best opportunities for every boy.

After 70 years of good use, the dining hall has been fully refurbished. We used some of the oak tables and forms to create new furniture; however, we do have some tables and forms in storage. There is an opportunity for Old Boys to purchase these if you are interested in having a slice of College history in your home or office. The prices are $4,000 for each oak table (3.5m long) and $1,000 per form (also 3.5m long). Please direct any enquiries regarding this to Kirstyn Sandall (marketing@mcglashan.school.nz or 021302938).

We hope you enjoy this selection of articles from our fortnightly newsletters.

Kindest regards,

Neil Garry
