Our chess team just won't stop winning. Yet again, we are on our way to the nationals.
The chess club has had a very busy start to the year. Congratulations go to the John McGlashan College intermediate A team which has qualified to go to the Chesspower National Finals in Hamilton in October. The team includes Martin Brook, Gary Yao, John Mengel and Jack Murphy.
A senior team is organised to play in the STAC exchange. The team includes Harrison Biggs, Krishan Luxmanan, Fraser Reynolds and Samuel Leaper. The team is hoping to repeat the win they had last year.
Three senior teams have entered for the Otago Secondary Schools Chess Championship which is held at Otago Boys High School. Otago Boys always fields very strong teams and our teams are hoping to provide a strong challenge this year.
The chess club is a very busy place with up to 18 boys attending at lunch times to practice their skills and enjoy some good company.
Harrison Biggs is the club coach this year.
