Friday 10th March 2023

On Monday the 6th of March Cromwell Golf club hosted the annual Eagles Society intercollegiate tournament.

With Wakatipu, Cromwell, Dunstan and Otago Boys all showing for the tournament, it made for some stiff competition for our 3 John McGlashan teams:

JMC Team 1

Connor Howes

Baxter Meder

Joe Devereux Kilpatrick

JMC Team 2

Harvey O'Neill

Lachlan Davies

Geordie MacDonald,

JMC Team 3

Luke Wright

Jack O’Connor

William Cameron.

The still, sunny weather made for perfect playing conditions, and hopes for low scores. The boys in Team 1 got off to hot starts making birdies and saving pars on the difficult front nine. The round ended with some tough scores meaning the boys coming away with 3rd place in the team's event with Baxter Meder scoring a 79 alongside Joe DK, and Connor coming away with a tough 80.

A particularly tidy round for the John McGlashan side came from 6-handicapper Harvey O’Neill. O’Neill got off to a safe start making 8 pars in the first 8 holes. Harvey carried this scoring through to the back nine making pars and the occasional birdie to head into the clubhouse at +4 par for the day, a tidy 76 to claim 6th place in the gross.

It was awesome to see many of the young lads out there playing and a few nice scores from our younger players. Big thanks to Rick Meder for getting all the lads out there to get their names on the board. Also to Andrew Hore and Joanna Lewis for the organisation around the tournament. A great day for the lads and a great start for JMC Golf year.

Baxter and Harvey are looking forward to competing against STAC next week in the interchange and continuing to build on their strong performances.

Breaking news for John McGlashan golf is the leading Otago Secondary Schools team representing Otago at the New Zealand Secondary Schools in August will be John McGlashan A. The team consisting of Baxter Meder, Connor Howes, and Joe Devereux Kilpatrick posted a score of 159 to take out 3rd place. However, with Harvey scoring better than all of them in the B team with a gross 76 there will be fierce competition for places for this final team.

We are also looking forward to our Old Boy’s golf tournament on 6th April. Please email Jo Lewis if you are interested in entering a team of four and/or sponsoring a hole. Entries close on 12/3/2023.
