Today we start a new feature of our newsletter where we will profile one or more of our coaches, mentors, tutors or volunteers. We will learn something about them as people, what they do, and why they do it. Today we start with Russ Lundy, the newly appointed 1st XV Coach of 2022.

Russ was a key member of the 2021 coaching crew being the assistant to Aaron Mauger. Russ brought a wealth of experience to the position having coached for many years at the highest the levels. Russ demonstrated himself to be a real people person who showed a high level of care for everyone as an individual. The boys very quickly became aware of this and described him as a "top bloke". Russ is a man of integrity who was both passionate and consistently calm. He was an outstanding assistant coach and provided the boys with a great role model.

Russ recently reflected on the gains made by the team this year and is heartened by the potential for future development and success "I'm looking forward to building on the growth across all teams within the senior rugby programme that has been made this year. We have a good number of players returning from the 1st XV this year and some exciting talent from the 2nds and U16s. Having Jamie Joseph running the pre-season and overseeing the programme will be awesome and I'm looking forward to learning from him as I did from Aaron this year."

Despite the fact that it is only spring and the rugby season is some time away Russ is already laying the foundations for next year and is getting excited. When asked about how he felt about the 2022 season he simply said... "Bring it on"
