Our Year 13 boys, and girls from Columba College, were very lucky to have Dr Sanjana Hattotuwa talk to them about disinformation in NZ.
Dr Hattotuwa talked about how NZ is at a crisis point where disinformation and misinformation are influencing more and more events and decisions in NZ. He likened the spread of disinformation to the spread of weeds, where you can ensure your own backyard is clear but you may be powerless to prevent others. Dr Hattotuwa challenged Year 13's to take a moment when engaging in social media feeds and question whether what they are looking at is real, and whether it needs to be spread. If something makes you feel anxious or angry then it may not be real.
