Calling all Potential Pipers and Drummers!

Sunday 22nd September 2024

It was great to see a healthy dose of Scottish Heritage at the Fete and during the week.

To everyone who made it along to the annual fete - we can't thank you enough for supporting John McGlashan!

Here's hoping you caught the slice of Scotland from our pipers both kicking off the event and popping up again at midday. It's always a great way to celebrate what's unique about McGlashan and Dunedin in general.

Following the fete, we were pleased to have a visit from Sam Coutts from the City of Dunedin Pipe Band:

Sam gave a great demonstration, with Mr Hunter bringing along his box of chanters and drums so the boys could get hands on with the equipment.

It was great to see a healthy dose of enthusiasm for the drums and pipes from our potential pipe band recruits.

As we move into Term 4, it's a great time to be thinking about whether Pipe Band might be a good fit for your boy next year. For any parents cautious of the raw power we hear in performance - we learnt that there are loads of ways to practice quietly around the house including using rubber drum pads and playing the chanter without the 'bag' attached!

If you have a potential piper or drummer at home, feel free to reach out to artscoordinator@mcglashan.school.nz for more information about getting involved next year.
