PFA Meeting Approves $12,900 Funding and Reviews Preparations for the Fete and Southern Arthouse Tour

Friday 16th June 2023

The Parents and Friends Association (PFA) met on Monday evening to consider funding requests and review preparations for the highly anticipated September Fete and the inaugural November Southern Arthouse Tour.

Several funding requests were carefully considered and approved. Specific approvals included:

  • The replacement/update of physics equipment, including variable resistors and analytical scales.
  • Support for staging the Year 13 drama production, "Bystander," at the professional venue 'Te Whare o Rukutia'. This production will mark the Aotearoa New Zealand premiere of "Bystander", adding an extra layer of audience excitement and anticipation.
  • $6,000 for Arts Week, ensuring that every Year 10 class can participate in music, drama, visual arts, and dance workshops.

Other approved funding requests included support for hockey team travel, new ice hockey uniforms, and a new set of performance-enhancing rowing sculls/oars.Fete PreparationsThe Fete is scheduled for Saturday 9 September 2023. The Fete Coordination Team is making significant progress in organizing this community event. Nicky Aldridge-Masters reported that Friday’s non-uniform day for books went well. The dedicated book-sorting team gathered on Sunday and praised the high quality of donated books, which will help support another successful Fete book stall. However, the Fete Team still requires additional volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the event. We’re specifically looking for:

  • Stall Convenors: Individuals to establish and manage food and other stalls. Please let us know if you have a stall idea or are willing to be assigned to a stall. We will find volunteers to work with you.
  • Fete Traffic Planning and Control Coordinator: This role requires a "Traffic Management Operative (Practicing)” certificate.
  • Health, Safety, and Security Coordinator: A position responsible for advising on arrangements and ensuring a safe environment during the Fete. A policing or security background is desirable for this role.
  • Fete Day Volunteers: Help out at a stall or assist around the Fete.

We are seeking a total of eight houses. We have also begun identifying talented artists and artworks, with the aim of making the Southern Arthouse Tour a premier event on Otago's artistic calendar. Tour tickets will be available in September.
