The end of the year is always busy in the Library with stocktaking, SHRIMP packs and the Librarians' Christmas party.

With an average of 970 patrons through the library doors every week and 48 keen trainee librarians, it has been a busy year! To celebrate, we ended the term with the Librarians' Christmas party - 16 litres of ice cream, heaps of strawberries, toppings galore, hundreds and thousands, silly hats and a fun atmosphere. Thanks to the staff who came along and helped us celebrate a very productive year.

Reading, and the growth of literacy, is a highly prioritised at McGlashan. Every year, the College runs a Summer Holiday Reading Programme (SHRiMP) which encourages boys to maintain good reading habits over the break. The Year 7 and 8 boys receive staff help to choose books for themselves and their families emphasising reading for enjoyment; seniors select their books independently. Thanks to the Board of Trustees and College staff for their support and to the Old Collegians’ Association which provides the bags. Parents, we trust that you will support us by reinforcing the vital importance of reading in boys' lives.

We suggest that the boys keep the books in the book bag so that they can find them when it comes time to return to school in 2023.

All books are due back on the first day of the new school year.

We wish you many hours of uninterrupted reading over the summer.

Merry Christmas
