Well done to Harry Wing who managed to get his nose in front at the finish line despite a strong challenge from a few other boys. Harry will study a Bachelor of Commerce with additional Agricultural Innovation papers at Otago University next year, and the generous $5000-00 scholarship should go some way to helping him achieve his goals.

Congratulations to Rosa Lines who emerged as the top girl student and top student overall for 2022. She receives a $6000-00 scholarship towards her studies at the University of Otago in 2023. Rosa has decided to study for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology with the addition of some Agricultural Innovation papers!

As a result of collaboration with the University over a number of years, we were able to see the addition of a Bachelor of Applied Science (Agricultural Innovation) degree to the university programmes, ideal for our graduating Agribusiness students who wish to attend Otago. All the details of the degree can be found here: https://www.otago.ac.nz/courses/subjects/agri.html

It can be taken as a major or minor subject depending on one's career direction. A huge thanks to Otago University, and more recently, our new Professor of Agricultural Innovation, Craig Bunt and Professor Indra Oey, Head of Food Science (https://www.otago.ac.nz/courses/subjects/fosc.html) for their commitment to providing pathways for our Agricultural and Agribusiness students.

Agribusiness continues to go from strength to strength at the Colleges with our classes bursting at the seams over the past few years. Practical hands-on and creative learning combined with industry visits and incredible field trips make the course very popular with the boys at John McGlashan College and girls from Columba College. The cover photo (above) documents the results of our recent and innovative marketing project this year, in which the student groups produced, branded, packaged, marketed and 'sold' biltong 6-packs, along with writing up a comprehensive marketing plan for the product (6 credits).

Attached is the updated Agribusiness application form if you would like to apply. Five (5) additional places are available at Year 13 for 2023 if you would like to just do the final year of the course (fully endorse-able and UE approved). Year 12 applications are closing on the 23rd November, so get your form in ASAP please. All Agribusiness applications from Columba girls MUST go through Columba College admissions first.

Applications and/or enquiries can be sent to Dr. Craig Preston, craig.preston@mcglashan.school.nz
