Fantastic start to Hockey Season

Friday 17th June 2022

Our hockey teams have all made a fantastic start to the 2022 season with some strong performances on the field and a high participation rate.

We currently have over 130 boys playing hockey for nine teams across Year 7 to 13. This level of participation has been maintained over a number of years and it is great to consistently have a quarter of our boys playing the sport and striving to perform at the highest level. Competition to get into our top teams has been particularly strong this year.

Some notable recent results for our 1st XI include wins over Kings High School (10-1), Otago Boys High School (6-1), Southland Boys High School (7-0) and Christ's College (3-1). Our 2nd XI has also been moved up into the Premier Boys Competition where they have played strongly and recently beaten Kings High School 1st XI (2-1). The U15A and 3rd XI have performed well in the Division 2 grade where they are playing against a number of 1st XI teams. Our junior and Year 7&8 teams have also had strong starts to the season.

I look forward to seeing all our hockey boys playing to the best of their ability and enjoying their sport over the next few months. In particular our 1st XI will be building throughout the rest of the season to Rankin Cup, the top national tournament and our 2nd XI will attend Galletly Cup which is the national 2nd XI tournament.

I would also like to wish our Under 15A team all the best for the upcoming Tanner Cup in Hamilton which will be held during the first week of the holidays.  I know they have all been working hard and are ready to take up the challenge of playing some of the best Under 15 teams in the country.

A huge thank you to all our parents, senior students and volunteers for coaching, managing and supporting our teams.  McGlashan hockey doesn't run without you!
