On the last day of Term 2, the most confident, eloquent and entertaining readers from the six classes in Year 7 and 8 made their presentations to the full syndicate and judges.
This was the culmination of a number of weeks of work in form classes, which focused on developing the bravery and skills to stand in front of their peers and deliver a reading from one of these three extracts: Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry Crump; Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo; Boy by Roald Dahl.
A daunting feat for many, there were some who took on the challenge to rise to the top. Congratulations to the finalists for this year: Alex Seaton, John Mengel, Marek Leith-Rickerby, Martin Brook, Qwenton McKenzie, Rylan Urquhart, Sam Sinclair, Sheon Luxmanan, Solomon Harcombe, Xavier Edmond, and Zach Duff. Extra congratulations to Sheon, our clear overall winner for this year and his two runners up, Alex and Martin, who were placed second equal.
Thank you to our judges Iain McGilchrist and Sue Porter, who added a wealth of experience and expertise to the process. Thank you also goes to Bruce James and Cameron Leydon for their expertise recording the final.
