Students travel to the Physiology Department for a little exercise
What would be an appropriate field trip for biology students on Valentine's Day? A cadiology lab at Uni's Physiology Department of course! The broad goal of the lab was to investigate blood pressure (systole and diastole) changes and heart rate changes during rest and different exercise regimes. To collect the data students used sphygmomanometers and ECGs which also taught them some useful new skills. An adjunct to this was that they learnt how to collect the heart rate data from the electrical changes in ECGs traces on computer rather than feeling pulse rate directly. A big thanks to the Physiology Department for running this laboratory activity for us.
