The ‘Do Some Maths” Ladder Throw: Combining Fun and Learning

The 9DSM Ladder Throw was a highlight of the 2022 Fete’s classroom stalls, earning an impressive $362. Donna Smith, teacher-in-charge, shared some insights about how it was transformed into a learning opportunity for the students:

"Our classroom stall was the 9DSM Ladder Throw, or as we liked to say, 'Do Some Maths'. The concept was that the rungs on the ladder were worth different points, and the higher the number of points they gained, the more impressive the prize. However, the high points were further away, so the risk increased. It was a risk-reward challenge with a side of maths!"

The Ladder Throw was a hit among visitors, and many came back for more than one attempt. The prizes donated by sponsor Kumon were particularly appreciated, and they made the stall a winner. Donna mentioned that the only lesson for 2023 was that they needed more prizes, particularly for the little ones.

Danielle Young, representing Kumon, said, "It was so good to see the audience enjoying the game, receiving our merchandise, and getting an awareness of who we are and what we offer."

The Do Some Maths Ladder Throw will make a comeback in 2023 with new and innovative aspects, promising even more fun and learning for all.
