Millar McElrea (Yr 12) along with his sister Zoe have once again managed to secure the title, taking the win for their second year in a row

One of the few events able to go ahead in Covid times was the Otago/Southland Jr Young Farmer of the Year regional final recently held at Waimumu. Millar McElrea (Yr 12) along with his sister Zoe have once again managed to secure the title, taking the win for their second year in a row after a day of competition on Saturday. Over the course of the morning, they participated in seven theory and practical modules testing agricultural knowledge, including those about plate to pasture production, soils, fertilisers and beekeeping. They finished the day with a strong performance in the quick-fire buzzer round against the other top teams. They are thrilled to have secured their place in the Grand Final to be held in early July at Whangarei. Here, they will compete against 13 other teams in seven more farming modules, an exam, a speech, and a practical building task. Over the coming months, they will be doing lots of study in preparation, and we wish them the best of luck.
