John McGlashan College has an active and enthusiastic Parents and Friends Association
Each year we focus on fundraising funds which are then distributed back into the school to benefit all students in a wide variety of ways.
Our major fundraising event is the school Fete held in September each year, which is a widely anticipated and popular community event.
Alongside the Principal, Board of Trustees and teachers, the PFA will support projects that facilitate improved educational outcomes for pupils of JMC, with a focus on innovative projects, programmes and resources that are generally not funded from other school budgets.
Recent years have seen us donate $150,000 to our new Te Anau Downs campus. The money was used to purchase new sea kayaks, life vests, ping pong table, archery equipment, an electronic telescope and a pontoon for out the lake. The Kapa Haka group has fantastic new uniforms as do numerous sports teams. The drama room has new lighting. We have funded the year 10 arts week and year 8 marae visits. Several sports teams have had donations towards costs associated with national tournaments. In previous years individuals have had help with the costs of personal endeavours eg. entry into the Young Farmers competition.
We are a diverse group of parents from a variety of backgrounds who come together in a fun and friendly atmosphere to plan events and allocate funds during our funding rounds. We meet at school one evening each month for an hour or so and there is no pressure to take on extra work if you are already too busy. It is a great way to meet new people and be involved in our school community.
We will be holding our AGM on March 10th 2025 in the Edgar Learning Centre at 6.30 pm. We warmly invite all parents of new or existing students to come along.
