On the last day of Term Three, the year 9 students came together to hear the top speakers of their year group, represent their form class and compete for the title of  Champion Year Nine Speaker.

Public speaking was the theme for Term Three with the Prepared Reading being held earlier in the term.  The topics for this year were diverse and included 'This is my passion, and this is why you should care' to 'If I could change one thing in New Zealand, it would be...' 

The competition was judged this year by Mr. Porter and Mr. James. They both commented that on the very high quality of speeches and the ability of the competitors to utilise skills in areas of content and presentation.

The finalists competing were: Tom Duffy, Xavier Edmond, Nick Friedlander, Max Gaffaney, Jack Hazlett, Sheon Luxmanen, Jack Murphy, Sam Sinclair, Zac Smith and Max Stowell.

Final placings awarded were: 

1st - Sheon Luxmanen
2nd = Jack Murphy and Zac Smith
3rd = Nicholas Friedlander and Jack Hazlett
