Last term, the German language department at John McGlashan College participated in the International German Language Week, run worldwide by the Goethe Institute, the worldwide representative of German culture and language.
During the assembly, Adrian and Ryan shared their upcoming trips to Germany (scholarship and exchange, respectively). They discussed the advantages of learning a second language and announced the German Language Week.
To celebrate the event, the Y11 German class welcomed the senior German students from Columba College for a traditional German Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake). The students presented their best baking and were fully immersed in the Sprachcafé (Language café), which motivated them to speak a lot of German.
All students were excited to talk to German to some fresh faces from a different school and showed a keen interest in organizing another Sprachcafé in term 2.
We wrapped up German language week on Friday lunchtime with a German trivia team quiz. Our students showed off their fantastic knowledge in categories like German traditions, German geography, and German celebrities. The lucky winners received a traditional German Bretzel with cheese, ham, and pickles as the ultimate prize. Mmmmh, sehr lecker!
